Story

With more than 30 years' martial arts teaching experience, Ming Thong is one of the senior traditional Chinese martial arts instructors in Malaysia. He debuted his martial arts journey with the late Master Png Chye Khim, with whom he studied Southern Shao Lin Quan (Second Chamber), Yang & Chen Styles Tai Ji Quan, Xing Yi Quan and Qi Gong. He than assisted the late Master Png in his teachings at Penang Sao Lim Athletic Association and Chung Ling High School's Sao Lim Self-defense Club. Ming Thong later studied Ba Gua Zhang under the tutelage of Master Li Gong Cheng (李功成), 4th generation in the family of Ba Gua Zhang, a disciple of the late Grandmaster Li Zi Ming (李子鸣).

Ming Thong started his group of Sao Lim martial arts in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1992. The group has later developed into l'Association Genevoise de Sao Lim. ONG Martial Arts Institute, another entity of martial arts organization, was established to conduct multidisciplinary martial arts teachings in Geneva with teaching force coming from various martial art disciplines, including traditional Chinese martial arts and Malaysian Silat. Upon departure of Ming Thong for Canada, the institute ceased its operations.

In Montreal, Canada, Ming Thong was the founder and instructor of McGill University Shao Lin Kung Fu Club. He had his public groups of students trained in Shao Lin Quan, Tai Ji Quan, Ba Gua Zhang and Xing Yi Quan at various organisations in addition to his own public and private classes. Many of the groups are still actively conducting the training today.

At the moment Ming Thong resides in his home-town Penang, Malaysia. He teaches traditional Chinese martial arts at various centres and conduct specific topical workshops / seminars and private lessons on request.
